This afternoon’s return represented an improvement on seven days ago, even though the first team again lost by the odd goal and the third team, once more, returned home following a 4-1 defeat, primarily because the Reserves, who welcomed back the team that had beaten them in the League last week, managed to turn the tables on Bishop’s Cleeve III this time out with a fine 4-0 victory. John Marchant, Rob Vaughan and Jamie Roberts grabbed the goals that made sure that the team successfully negotiated the first round of the Cheltenham League’s Senior Charity Cup.
At the same time, the First team put in an improved display at home to high flying Ramblers and, in the final analysis, will feel aggrieved not to have gained anything from the match. Ramblers established a two goal lead before the break but the First team had much the better of the second period, pulling a goal back through Simon Reeve’s penalty twenty minutes from the end but not proving able to get back on level terms.
The third team, meanwhile, took their leave of the Junior Charity Cup following a 4-1 defeat at the hands of old rivals C & G, who will make the trip to Cheltenham Road next Saturday for a GFA Minor Charity Cup match.
