Star FC Club Crest

Saturday, 30th January

Another day off for the Third team this week but the First team and the Reserves were in action today, with mixed results.

The First team travelled to Brockworth and recorded their third win in a row with a 2-1 victory in Division One of the Northern Senior League to move to third place in the League table.  The result was an exact reversal of the defeat that the team suffered against Brockworth Albion earlier in the season and was secured thanks to goals from Mike Thompson and Steve Conway.  Brockworth's only strike came virtue of an own goal from James Gowing but a good team performance ensured that the side secured their 4th 3 point haul in the last five games and now sit just three points off the top of the table.

Meanwhile, however, the Reserves lost 5-0 at home in Cheltenham League Division One to high flying Newton.  After the opening exchanges had been fairly even, Newton exerted more and more pressure and took a two goal lead into the break thanks to strikes in the 24th and 35th minute.  Newton then placed a strangle hold on proceedings by notching two more goals in the opening 10 minutes of the second half but the home side then enjoyed their best period of the match and probably deserved to pull at least a couple of goals back.  Unfortunately, it was left to the visitors to complete the scoring with a 5th goal just minutes before the end.

Saturday, 23rd January

The whole club was back in action today for the first time in 7 weeks with three League fixtures that resulted in two wins and a defeat.

The First team lead the way with an excellent 3-0 home Northern Senior League Division One win over Shortwood United Reserves to make it 2 wins out of 2 since the big thaw took over from the big freeze.  Chris Peach opened the scoring midway through the first half to make it 1-0 at half time and Steve Conway extended the lead shortly after the break with a good finish following an excellent move.  Chris Peach rounded off good work from James Gowing and Mike Thompson with 20 minutes to go and numerous other chances were spurned as the side made it 3 wins in the last four games, stretching back to the beginning of December. The firsts have now moved into 4th spot in the league table.

The Reserves resumed their season by heading over Cleeve Hill and came from behind to return home from Winchcombe with all three points thanks to a 3-1 win over Winchcombe Town Reserves.  Mill Lane has never been a happy hunting ground for the club over the years and it did not seem as if the established trend was about to change when the home side turned round at half time with a one goal lead.  However, a Rob Vaughan header from a Jamie Roberts corner tied things up at one apiece and then two further strikes from Jamie himself secured the side's first league win since October.

Meanwhile, however, the Third team played only their fourth home League match of the season but were unfortunate enough to come up against a rampant Upton Town, who took the points with a 6-0 win.  It was the thirds first outing since the excellent 2-1 win at Finlay FC on December 5th and, after an enforced layoff of nearly two months, the fixture list did the side no favours at all, dictating that the return to action would be against the runaway Division Four leaders and promotion favourites.  The Thirds did well to hold their own in the first period, only turning round 2-0 down following a couple of strikes midway through the half, but the lack of games caught up with them after the break and they leaked a further 4 goals without reply.  Unfortunately, they now have no fixture again next week before playing away to Falcons Reserves in two weeks time.
